On-Going Redevelopment Projects

Braun Court:

In 1987, the Marin City Community Development Corporation sponsored the Braun Court project, requesting assistance from the Redevelopment Agency, and began joint ventures with Bridge Housing Corporation, Ecumenical Association for Housing, and the Martin Group to accomplish this project. The Agency hired staff in 1990 and 1991 to provide technical, permit and financial assistance for projects in the Marin City project area. The Agency approved grants for the Braun Court project from the Low and Moderate Income Housing Fund.

The Braun Court project resulted in the construction of 30 townhomes, 22 of which were affordable at below market rates. Construction is completed on this project, and all but two of the 30 units have sold.

Marin City U.S.A.:

In 1987, the Marin City Community Development Corporation sponsored the Marin City U.S.A. project, requesting assistance from the Redevelopment Agency, and began joint ventures with Bridge Housing Corporation, Ecumenical Association for Housing, and the Martin Group to accomplish this project. The Agency hired staff in 1990 and 1991 to provide technical, permit and financial assistance for projects in the Marin City project area. The Agency provided loans and grants for the affordable housing in the Marin City U.S.A project.

The Marin City USA project is a mixed use development with a residential component that will result in the construction of 255 apartments and 85 townhomes, 40% of which will be affordable at below market rates. The commercial component of this project will create 185,000 square feet of retail space. The community facilities component of this project will result in the construction of a 4,000 square foot library, a 4,000 square foot day care center and remodeling of existing community facilities. Construction on the Marin City USA project began in October of 1995, and should be substantially complete in the Spring of 1997. Together, these developments will provide a significant amount of affordable housing in the unincorporated County, and will provide job opportunities for Marin City residents.

Related to the Marin City USA project, the Agency planned, obtained permits, and raised funds to construct the $7 million dollar improvement to the Waldo Interchange which was completed in 1995. The Agency developed local hiring goals which were included in the Waldo Interchange contract and resulted in a number of jobs for low income Marin City residents as well as business opportunities for Marin City companies in the construction and food service industries.

Rotary Valley Senior Housing:

The Agency provided technical assistance and arranged funding for an eighty (80) unit senior housing development known as the Rotary Valley Senior Housing Project. This project is presently under construction and will provide eighty (80) units of housing that is affordable to seniors of low and very low income.
