COMMUNITY
DEVELOPMENT AGENCY
Video
Instructor/GIS Aide, Geographic
Information Systems Division. Help explain, organize, and
narrate
detailed local information on the County of Marin’s mapping web
site. Working
with staff, you will make information user-friendly. The ideal intern
can
organize step-by-step directions, is comfortable in front of a camera,
has an
engaging speaking voice, and is passionate about making information
accessible
to all. The intern will help script -- and then will narrate -- brief
videos
telling computer users how to use a wide range of program features at
marinmap.org, a county site featuring real estate parcels, emergency
escape
routes, bicycle trails, and much more. Hours: 2 to 4 a day, one to two
days a week.
The GIS manager will provide training and ongoing supervision and
support.
COUNTY
ADMINISTRATOR’S OFFICE
Summer Management
Internship. The ideal candidate
will have an interest in local government and enjoy working in a
fast-paced,
professional environment. Applicants must be in the process of
finishing or
recently earned, an undergraduate degree or a graduate degree in public
administration, public policy, business administration, or related
field.
Additionally, the ideal candidate will demonstrate strong verbal and
written
skills, possess strong research and analytical skills, and propose
innovative
ideas and solutions. There will be a modest stipend. The internship
will be
approximately 32 hrs/wk, begin in June and last 8-12 wks. Please send a

CULTURAL
SERVICES, MARIN CENTER
Maintenance Aide, Cultural Services.
Learn to solve
problems, fix things, and build practical skills during a one-semester
internship with the Marin Center Events Facilities Services team.
Assist in all
facilities services, including but not limited to facilities
maintenance,
electrical, plumbing, key-locking, painting, and exhibits. The ideal
candidate
for this assignment has a can-do attitude, willingness to learn,
interest in
the listed skills, and the ability to lift up to 60 pounds.
HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES
Co-Facilitator Interns at
County Jail, Detention Services. We
are collecting
names of students interested in a future opportunity to help
incarcerated
people with chronic illness learn the skills to cope with their
disease.
Co-facilitators will with detention health care personnel during
six-week
sessions of the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program at Marin County
Jail.
The content is in the form of an interactive, scripted program
developed at
Stanford University. The program is educational, fun, and powerful. The
ideal intern
has worked or volunteered in a jail setting or, if not, would be
comfortable
working with incarcerated individuals. Education in health care, social
science, criminal justice, or teaching is not necessary but would be a
plus.
Students must be 21 or older and submit to security clearance and
background
check. Training will be provided. Six-month commitment will be
requested.
Community
Prevention Specialist/Intern, Prevention
Hub. Are you interested in public health and prevention work? The
ideal
intern will assist the newly created Prevention Hub to implement
trainings,
develop resources and data,
and assist in
electronic and web communication with contracted providers and the
general
public. The ideal intern is passionate about health and prevention
issues
and has organizational and communication skills. Two assignments
available. Hours: Up to 15 a week; Tuesdays and Fridays
preferred. Youth,
young adults, and high school students are especially encouraged to
apply. Staff will provide orientation. Office located in San
Rafael. Some
work could be done from home on the Internet.
Deputy Public
Guardian Intern, Public Guardian. Protect incapacitated
adults and gain case
experience working with professionals on the Marin County Public
Guardian team.
The intern will help investigate cases of potential neglect or abuse,
accompany
deputy public guardians to court and on visits to clients’ homes
and hospitals,
make phone calls, and help prepare documents for court appearances. In
response
to client needs, office atmosphere can range from calm to crisis as
team
members work to keep clients safe and preserve their assets. The ideal
intern
is responsible, accurate, service-oriented, has great people skills,
and is
interested in social work, the law, and/or issues related to mental
illness and
dementia. Required: ability to maintain strict confidentiality, work
independently after receiving direction, and use Word, Excel, Outlook,
and
common office machines. Hours: 8 to 16 a week on a flexible schedule.
Staff
will introduce student to policies and procedures, provide PG-Pro
Panoramic
software and HIPAA training, and will include the intern in some staff
meetings.
Health Education
Trainer/Educator, WIC. Do you have some
background in child
development, positive-discipline strategies, research, teaching, or
training?
If so, the Women, Infants and Children program is looking for help to
research,
design, and start training modules that staff members can use to teach
and
support their clients. There is a particular need for training in
positive
discipline, especially around feeding issues. Flexible schedule; some
project
work may done at home. Staff will provide training.
Intergenerational
Conversation Project
Intern, Aging & Adult Services. The
Intergenerational Conversation
Project seeks interns to be matched with diverse older adults for
weekly
get-togethers. As an intern you will visit older adult clients in their
homes
for social interaction and conversations. If you are a punctual,
outgoing
person who enjoys reaching out to others, this internship is for you.
Public
Information Communications Intern, Community
Health and Prevention Services. Are you
interested in public health issues and/or communication/media
relations? Intern
will help develop and implement a communications plan, design
templates,
research, and formulate content for e-mail communications, organize
distribution lists, and assist with video media productions. Candidate
should
be proficient in common computer programs and possess strong written,
organizational, and verbal skills. Video production knowledge a plus
but not
required.
MARIN COUNTY FREE LIBRARY
(Please note branch
location)
Teen Client Assistant, Marin City Library. Do you enjoy
working with teens? Are you patient and positive? Do you have a talent
for
diffusing emotionally charged situations? The Marin City Library staff
is
looking for a mature student intern to interact with teens on
afternoons and
weekends when young people are using library computers. Behavioral
issues may
include loud talking and some arguing. The ideal intern will engage
teen
patrons, chat with them regularly, and help staff in case of a
peer-to-peer
disagreement. Excellent opportunity for social science students
interested in
working with youth. Hours: minimum of 3 to 4 a week; flexible schedule.
Staff
will provide orientation, support, and ongoing supervision.
MARIN COUNTY PARKS
Communications
Assistant and Archive Manager, Open Space
District Administration.
Would you like to become a vital part of the Marin County Parks
department? A
motivated intern is needed to support MCP's communications efforts.
This
assignment will involve conducting research, writing and editing
biographies
for Our Parks, Our History, drafting
articles, and cataloguing an internal photo library. Hours: Up to 16 a
week.
Staff will provide orientation to the department.
PROBATION
Employment Advisor, Juvenile
Hall. Help incarcerated teens craft resumes, complete forms,
practice
interviewing, and understand the basics of a job search. The ideal
intern knows
something about the local job market for teens, can help students
consider
appropriate jobs, and has some background in social services,
education,
administration of justice, or a related field.
Intern must be 21 or older, comfortable visiting a locked
facility, and
able to maintain strict confidentiality. Hours: 4 to 8 a week for at
least
three months. Staff will provide orientation and ongoing support.
SHERIFF
(Applicants
must be at least 18 and are subject to the Sheriff’s Office
drug use
guidelines and
required to pass a background investigation prior to appointment.)
Social Media Specialist, Emergency Management
Services. Use
your social media smarts to assess and recommend effective approaches
to social
media for the Information Technology team that helps keep Marin ready
for
emergencies. Working with staff, the intern will establish a social
media
program for the Office of Emergency Services. The ideal intern has
knowledge of
social media, the ability to organize and work independently, and a
major in
computer science, business, marketing, or journalism. Not
required but a
plus: bilingual ability, good people skills, initiative, a sense of the
future
of social media, or public relations skills. Hours: 8 to 16 a week for
a
semester or until the project is finished. Hours: anytime between 7
a.m. and 5
p.m. on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays. Staff will introduce the intern to
emergency
management, county government, and computer operations.
