COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AGENCY

Records Management, Administration. Assist in organizing, compiling and preparing application files for conversion into a digital record. Use scanner/copier for preparing exhibits for imaging, record relevant file information in an Excel database, conduct quality control of digital files, and provide other administrative assistance related to the support of the agency's records management program. Ideal candidate is accurate, knows Microsoft Word and Excel, and has a sharp eye for detail. Training will be provided for use of web-based application (WebXtender).

Video Instructor/GIS Aide, Geographic Information Systems Division.  Help explain, organize, and narrate detailed local information on the County of Marin’s mapping web site. Working with staff, you will make complex information user-friendly. The ideal volunteer can organize sequential directions, is comfortable in front of a camera, has an engaging speaking voice, and is passionate about making information accessible to all. The volunteer will help script -- and then will narrate -- brief videos telling computer users how to use a wide range of program features at marinmap.org, a county site featuring real estate parcels, emergency escape routes, bicycle trails, and much more. Hours: 2 to 4 a day, 1 to 2 days a week. The GIS manager will provide training, supervision, and ongoing support.

COURTS

Legal Aide, Legal Self Help Services. Are you an attorney, paralegal, and/or student interested in the law? Would you like to volunteer and experience assisting in the Marin County Superior Court? Opportunities are now available to provide support to judges in the courtroom and assist self-represented parties prepare court orders. The ideal candidate has some legal experience and computer skills. Opportunity suitable for attorneys, law students, paralegals or paralegal students. Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to noon. Individuals may volunteer in 3- or 4-hour segments up to 3 mornings a week.

Receptionist/Intake Specialist, Legal Self Help Services. Greet and assist customers as they enter Legal Self Help Services, which provides assistance in understanding and navigating general procedures and providing tools and information for people to do self-research or complete documents for processing. No legal experience necessary. The receptionist/intake specialist will determine the types of case and the needs of customers and direct them accordingly. Volunteer may also help clients respond to correspondence, find forms, and assist with ongoing and one-time projects. Basic office and computer skills and an ability to work in a busy environment with diverse customers are necessary. Knowledge of two or more languages a plus! Minimum time commitment requested: one 3-hour shift per week. Training will be provided.

CULTURAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT

Docents, Marin Center Administration. Frank Lloyd Wright enthusiasts are needed to lead docent tours on an on-call basis at the historic Marin County Civic Center. Expand and share your knowledge with a wide range of visitors. This is an excellent opportunity for volunteers with good speaking voices who enjoy teaching and leading groups on fascinating and educational hour-and-a-half walking tours of this national architectural treasure, Frank Lloyd Wright’s last project. Outstanding training provided by expert veteran docents.

Maintenance/Assistant to Director of Maintenance, Marin Center. Do you have “handyman” skills? Assist in facilities services for events at Marin Center. Services include facilities maintenance, electrical, plumbing, key-locking, painting and exhibits. Mechanical aptitude and interest required. Hours: mutually agreeable schedule up to 3 days a week. Staff will provide orientation.

Receptionist, Marin Center. Get a front-row view of what goes on at the Marin Center. Receptionists help with mailings, answer phones, direct inquiries, and make copies. Other duties may include organizing a publicity book, assisting with Marin County Fair entries, and light computer work such as data input and word processing. Great assignment for flexible person who enjoys promoting culture and the arts in a friendly, low-pressure environment. The show must go on, and with your behind-the-scenes help, it will! Hours: 3-hour shifts on weekdays during business hours.

HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES

Clerical Aide/Packet Assembler, Public Assistance Eligibility. Help clients in need connect with public assistance resources by assembling packets of forms and information to be distributed to applicants. Packets differ depending on the program and the time when applications are being distributed (new application versus re-certification). It is of vital importance that packets be assembled correctly, so efficiency and attention to detail are crucial. Self-paced; flexible hours. Training provided.

Clerical and Data Entry Aide for Communicable Disease Team, Public Health. Do you enjoy providing administrative support in the public health arena? Volunteer will work in an office setting behind the scenes for Division of Public Health programs including: immunization; lead program; STDs;

and tuberculosis and other communicable diseases. The ideal volunteer is detail-oriented and will observe strict confidentiality about sensitive health history information. Basic computer skills and consistent, long-term commitment preferred. Best times for computer availability at the office include Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Two 2- to 3-hour shifts per week preferred. A minimum of 12 hours a month for 3 months is requested; because of training involved, a 6-month commitment is preferred. Data-entry training provided. County compliance and HIPAA training provided prior to start.

Client Advocate (IHSS), Aging and Adult Services. Work with staff at the Aging and Adult Services main office, 10 North San Pedro, San Rafael, to provide direct services. Assignment will include home visits and some transportation of clients. Assist In-Home Support Service clients by transporting them to appointments. Volunteer may also provide practical help with pet walking, paperwork, etc. The ideal candidate is compassionate, patient, and service-oriented. Under the direction of social workers, volunteer will maintain regular communication and participate in formal check-ins on the status of clients. Documentation of visits may be required. Before placement, Livescan fingerprint (DOJ/FBI background) and reference checks will be conducted. Valid California driver’s license, proof of vehicle insurance, and DMV printout must be kept on file. Hours: 8 to 10 a week on a flexible schedule. Minimum 6-month commitment is preferred. Training provided by social workers.

Co- Facilitator at County Jail, Chronic Disease Self-Management Program, Detention Services. We are collecting names of people interested in working with detention health care staff to help incarcerated people with chronic illness learn how to cope with their disease. Co-facilitators will help present 6-week sessions of the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program at Marin County Jail. Content is in the form of a well-designed, interactive, scripted program developed at Stanford University. The program is educational, fun, and powerful. Are you suffering from chronic illness yourself? We encourage you to apply. The ideal volunteer has worked or volunteered in a jail setting or, if not, would be comfortable working with incarcerated individuals. Health care or teaching background is not necessary but is a plus. Candidates must submit to security clearance and background check. Training will be provided, and a 6-month commitment will be requested. PLEASE NOTE: This program is still in the planning stages. Call to inquire about update or to be put on the list.

Connection Center Resource Desk Assistant, Bi-lingual, Health and Wellness Campus. The volunteer in this vital entry-level assignment greets, directs, and provides resource and referral information to visitors and clients at the Connection Center at the county’s Health and Wellness Campus. Ideal candidates are Spanish-English bilingual speakers who can welcome visitors and help them feel comfortable. Assignment requires providing information about campus programs and community resources, escorting clients to other buildings, and entering resource and referral information into a database. Shifts available weekdays 9 a.m.–5 p.m., with particular need mid-day (12 noon–1 p.m.) and Wednesday evenings until 8 p.m. Orientation to the campus provided by staff.

Donation Coordinator (infant and toddler supplies), Social Services. This community service role includes interfacing with an Oakland-based organization that collects and distributes clothing and other items for babies and toddlers. Volunteer will work with staff to determine client needs, and then obtain and distribute items. Some travel to East Bay may be required. The ideal candidate possesses big-picture thinking skills, the ability to assess program needs and help create a distribution system, and is a responsible self-starter able to work with minimal supervision. Ability to track information on a spreadsheet a plus. Before placement, Livescan/fingerprint (DOJ/FBI background) and reference checks will be conducted. Valid California driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and DMV print-out must be kept on file in case a client needs to be transported. Volunteer may set own schedule; minimum 3-month commitment. Social workers will provide training. Once trained, volunteer may perform some of the work from home; assignment includes regular check-ins with staff in San Rafael.

Drivers, Chronic Care Management. Do you like to drive? Help someone who can’t! Drive a patient for same-day surgery and help settle them at home, or drive someone to a doctor’s appointment. Flexible hours, monthly team meeting, and gasoline reimbursement. Group meets every third Tuesday.

Facilitators, Chronic Disease Self-Management Program, "Healthy Living," Aging and Adult Services.  Help people suffering with chronic illness learn skills and tools to cope with their disease. The Division of Aging & Adult Services is seeking facilitators to lead six-week sessions of the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program. The content is in the form of a well-designed, interactive, scripted program developed at Stanford University. Are you suffering from chronic illness yourself? We encourage you to apply. Medical or teaching background not necessary, but a plus. The program is educational, fun, and powerful. Formal training provided.

 

File Clerk, Youth and Family Services, Community Health & Prevention. Youth and Family Services at the Health and Wellness Campus in San Rafael seeks a volunteer to work behind-the-scenes in a program that provides outpatient mental health services including assessment, case management, family counseling, education, and child psychiatry for children, teens, and families. Your efforts will support entire families seeking individual or family assistance as you provide administrative support such as filing and photocopying. Shifts available weekdays 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and 1-4 p.m. One or two 3- to 4-hour shifts per week are preferred if your schedule allows.

General Assistance Program Aide, Employment Services. Your help is needed to provide administrative support for the General Assistance program, which gives first-time employment services to job-ready, indigent residents who are ineligible for other types of public aid. Duties include reminder calls, scheduling and rescheduling appointments, mail correspondence, preparing forms, filing case files, workshop registration, making copies, processing payments, and more. Hours: Tuesday mornings preferred, one day a week, 3 to 4 hours total. A 10 a.m.—2 p.m. shift is ideal. Staff will provide orientation and training.

Marin Medical Reserve Corps Member, MMRC. Make a difference by sharing your expertise, aptitude, and elbow grease with our consortium of creative talent. The Marin Medical Reserve Corps provides trained, organized, expert professional volunteers to supplement the county’s response to public health and disaster medical needs. If you have special interests in the following areas, MMRC would love to talk with you: video production, photography, press communication event planning and management, production of promotional materials, public speaking, bookkeeping, grant writing, catering, and archives maintenance. Orientation to the Corps provided.

Patient Advocate, Aging and Adult Services. Are you passionate about helping those in need? Join our team of easygoing, warm, friendly volunteers who help patients navigate hospital care. The Project Independence program bridges the gap between a participant’s discharge from the hospital and the return to autonomy and quality of life at home. Patient advocates support clients in understanding and following discharge plans and medication orders. Advocates also coordinate and arrange for community services that may be helpful and may transport clients. Pre-placement background check provided. Staff will provide initial training in 15 hours over three weeks. Advocates must participate in ongoing in-service trainings.

Public Art Display Coordinator, Community Health & Wellness. Do you have an art background or enjoy project management? If so, this opportunity might be of interest to you. This role is community-based and requires interfacing with community groups and an art committee comprised of Campus Management staff at the Health and Wellness Campus in San Rafael. Much work can be done from home with informal check-ins with HHS staff at the Health and Wellness Campus. This is a time-limited project that can begin immediately and will be completed when art at 3 locations has been secured and hung (exact timeline TBD). The ideal candidate will have a flair for or background in art or design and the desire to work with a diverse group of community members. This role requires a self-starter and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, but have strong communication and project management skills. Orientation of county HHS programs at the Health and Wellness Campus in San Rafael will be provided. Compliance training on the computer will be required prior to starting. Volunteer can set own hours.

Public Assistance Interpreter, Employment and Economic Assistance. Can you translate documents and help others complete their paperwork? Here is a perfect opportunity to hone office, communication and computer skills while serving the community. Help clients complete applications for assistance; monthly, quarterly, and semi-annual reports; and redetermination papers. Volunteer may also assist with phone calls or clerical tasks. Bilingual ability required. Staff will provide orientation.

Raising a Reader Aide, Community Health & Prevention. Do you believe in fostering love of reading in children? Volunteer will encourage appreciation for reading through storytelling for small groups. Assignment includes assisting clients’ children while parents are attending classes or appointments at the Health and Wellness Campus. In the morning groups, children range in age from 18 months through 5 years; afternoon groups include older children. Books and materials provided. Ratio of children to volunteer not to exceed 10:1. Ideal candidate enjoys and has had experience with youngsters; those with an interest in teaching or child development are also encouraged to apply. Candidates must be 16 or older, patient, creative, and dependable. English/Spanish bilingual ability a plus but not required.  Before placement, Livescan/fingerprinting and TB test will be provided. Staff will provide orientation and training in confidentiality and compliance with rules on health information privacy.

Reception Aide, Aging and Adult Services. Are you friendly, reliable, and discreet, with good customer service skills? Be the first stop for visitors to the renovated reception area at Aging and Adult Services. Volunteers will be trained to triage walk-ins and phone calls so clients may be referred to services such as In-Home Support Services, Adult Protective Services, or the Public Guardian. Volunteer will complete intake forms and do data entry. Required: good judgment and interest in volunteering side-by-side with staff members. The ideal candidate will have organizational skills and desire to assist older adults. Office or telephone experience a plus. Hours: About 10 hours a week in 3.5-hour shifts from 8:30 a.m.-12 noon or 1-4 p.m. Three-month commitment required. Staff will provide orientation and training.

Senior Peer Counselor, Community Mental Health Services. Are you 55-plus and looking to help older adults deal with a variety of aging-related issues? English- or Spanish-speaking peer counselors are needed to provide one-to-one weekly counseling to clients in their homes, helping them cope with issues of aging while providing emotional support and practical resources to help comfort and empower them. The ideal volunteer has an interest in his or her own personal growth, compassion, and understanding. The program offers its eight-week training session starting March 8, 2011 in Novato for English-speaking peer counselors. Training covers basic counseling skills, issues of aging, and community resources. Training for Spanish-speaking peer counselors to be announced. Regular weekly team meetings are held Thursday afternoons at 10 N. San Pedro Road, San Rafael.

Newsletter Writer, General Administration. Enthusiastic “techie” who enjoys writing thought-provoking, informative, easy-to-read articles sought to keep Health and Human Services Department staff aware of potential information privacy and security threats and how to reduce those risks. Potential topics for the Information Privacy and Security eNewsletter might include text messaging, identity theft, e-mail best practices, and Internet usage. Volunteer will work closely with the county’s privacy officer. Writing, computer, and research skills, plus ability to meet deadlines, are required for this team-oriented opportunity. Hours: 8 to 10 a week on a flexible schedule; 6-month commitment preferred. Orientation and training provided by staff.

HUMAN RESOURCES

Administrative Aide, Civic Center Volunteers. Be at the heart of Marin County’s vibrant volunteer program! Volunteer will help process forms, proofread, file, and perform support tasks such as data entry. The ideal candidate enjoys being part of a team and is accurate, organized, and familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Writing ability is a plus. Hours: 3 to 6 a week, 1 or 2 days a week, on a flexible schedule. Staff will provide orientation.

Administrative Aide, Civic Center Volunteers. Help record the contributions of time made by the county’s volunteers. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented and can accurately enter data and run simple reports from an Access database. Location: Marin Civic Center, San Rafael. Hours: 2 to 4 hours a day on Mondays, Wednesdays, and/or Fridays; flexible schedule. A 3-month commitment is requested. Orientation provided.

Administrative Aide, Civic Center Volunteers. Use your investigative skills to increase accuracy in an annual report while volunteering in an office at the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Marin Civic Center. The ideal candidate is comfortable communicating by phone and e-mail to track down missing information. The volunteer will contact other volunteers and their supervisors to gather information about volunteer hours served, but not yet reported. The ideal candidate is professional, friendly, and enjoys getting things done. Project-based opportunity will continue until information on hours served in 2011 has been gathered. Hours: 2 to 4 hours a day on Mondays, Wednesdays, and/or Fridays. Orientation provided.

Research & Outreach Aide, Volunteer & Employee Program, EEO. Utilize your outgoing personality, initiative, and creative thinking to support equal opportunity and increase the county’s recruitment outreach for minorities and women to obtain a higher number of applicants. Includes phone-calling, online research, and contacting local nonprofits and current Equal Employment Advisory Council, Human Rights Commission, and Marin Women's Commission members. The volunteer may be invited to attend some local meetings to meet contacts and network.  Required:  Ability to create an e-mail list using Microsoft Excel or Word.  Hours: Minimum of a half-day per week on a flexible schedule at the Marin Civic Center or from home.  Training includes orientation and thorough discussion of the goals of the division. Staff will provide current and potential additional contacts.

 
LAW LIBRARY

Language Consultant. Do you have excellent language and Internet research skills? Help compile computer links where translated materials can be accessed. Ideal candidates are bilingual in Spanish, Chinese, or Vietnamese and have substantial computer skills. Excellent opportunity for a volunteer interested in gaining some exposure to the legal environment, as the Law Library can help provide volunteers with training in legal thinking and legal research.

Library Assistant. Volunteers needed for basic, crucial tasks at the Law Library. Build or use your skills by opening or closing the Library, turning computers on and off, stocking photocopy machines with paper, and similar tasks. Training also available for other library tasks. The ideal volunteer has some background in library services; familiarity with the law is a plus.

Web Master. Use your web-design talent on the Law Library’s newly launched website by developing a web-based community resource to improve access to a wide range of legal materials. The volunteer will work with the director for further construction of the Library's site. Website design skills are needed for this position. Orientation provided by staff.

MARIN ADVOCATES FOR CHILDREN

Advocates, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). Every year more than half a million abused, neglected children need safe, permanent, nurturing homes. Too many spend years moving from one temporary home to another with no family to call their own. As trained advocates, Court Appointed Special Advocates volunteers are appointed by judges to be a voice for these children in court. The result is that a child is placed into a safe, loving home where he/she can thrive. CASA volunteers are ordinary people committed to doing what is best for the child. Volunteers are trained in courtroom procedure, social services, the juvenile justice system, and the special needs of abused, neglected children. A 2-year commitment is required. Must be available various weekday afternoons and one Saturday morning to attend 9-session mandatory training. Next training begins June 2012.

MARIN COUNTY FREE LIBRARY (Note branch location)

Book Mender, Fairfax Library. Prior experience required to repair damaged books, attach loose pages, and repair torn pages. Hours: 3 a day, once or twice a week. Staff will provide orientation.

Child Literacy Teacher’s Aide, Marin Literacy Program. Share your love of learning as a support volunteer to the FLAGship (Families Learning and Growing) bus staff. The bus makes weekly visits to Marin area communities to reach families underserved by other preschool services. Volunteers meet the bus at a selected location and help staff serve parents and children. Activities include school readiness, story times, art projects, singing, health information, and English literacy for adults and children. The ideal volunteer is comfortable with diverse groups and enjoys young children, children’s literature, and children’s music. Spanish fluency is a plus. Literacy training required. Make a difference for as little as 2 hours a week for 6 months. Bus hours: 8:30 to 2:30, Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. See www.marinliteracy.org for schedule of sites.

Computer Tutor, Civic Center Library. Provide one-on-one tutoring sessions to teach basic skills to novice computer users in using Microsoft Word and Excel, e-mail, and the Internet. Sessions may take place any time the library is open when both the tutor and tutee are available to meet.

Library Talent Scout, Marin County Free Library. Libraries are about more than books and computers! Make a difference for library patrons by creating programs and coordinating with other libraries to provide enrichment programs for patrons and the surrounding community. Arrange appealing workshops, coordinate with librarians and branch managers, and report your progress to the project coordinator. Do you have a knack for networking with friends, family, civic groups, and faith communities? We encourage you to apply! Training and support provided. Commitment: 6 months to 1 year.

Reader, Corte Madera Library. Bring stories to life by joining the Listen In! read-aloud team serving residents of the Aegis assisted living facility on Paradise Drive. The ideal volunteer loves a good story, is comfortable reading aloud to others, and is an expressive speaker. Some listeners are hearing-impaired, so the ability to project your voice and articulate with enthusiasm is a necessity.

Senior Access Reader, Novato Regional Library. Do you enjoy reading aloud? Touch lives and make a difference by reading to a group of frail elderly listeners, some with early Alzheimer’s, every Tuesday from 1:30–2:30 p.m. in Novato. The ideal volunteer loves stories, is comfortable reading in public, and is an expressive speaker. Some listeners are hearing-impaired; the ability to speak up and articulate with energy is essential. Current TB test required; test is provided free of charge by the county.

Storyteller, Civic Center Library. Add joy and adventure to the lives of older adults by becoming a storyteller! The Civic Center Library is in need of volunteers to read to groups of seniors who are frail and/or diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with frail elders, reading to groups of 20 or more, and leading brief discussions. Four to five volunteers needed. Small time commitment: once a week, approximately 1 hour, at Senior Access, 70 Skyview Terrace, San Rafael.  Storyteller will receive orientation from the staff of Senior Access, which co-sponsors the read-aloud program with the Civic Center Library. Volunteers choose what to read. Interactions will include such things as reviewing a memory kit – including photos, old ads, etc. Hours: Tuesday mornings, Thursday afternoons, and Friday mornings. Current TB test required; test is provided free of charge by the county.

Teen Client Assistant, Marin City Library. Do you enjoy working with teens? Do you have a talent for diffusing an emotionally charged situation? Are you patient and positive with young people? The Marin City Library staff is looking for a mature volunteer to interact with teens afternoons and weekends when young people are using the library’s computers. Behavioral issues may include loud talking and some arguing. The ideal volunteer will talk with teen’s patrons regularly and help staff intervene in any peer-to-peer disagreement. Hours: 3-hour and 4-hour shifts available. Staff will provide orientation and support.

Tutors, Marin Literacy Program, San Rafael Library. Help open a door on the world! The Marin Literacy Program is looking for sensitive tutors for eager adults 1.5 to 2 hours a week over a 6-month period. Work one-on-one or in small groups. Orientation to the program is offered monthly from 6:30–8:30 p.m. at the San Rafael Public Library, 1100 E Street, San Rafael. Volunteers receive 16 hours of training offered quarterly on two consecutive Saturdays (9:15 a.m.—4:30 p.m.).

MARIN COUNTY PARKS

Civic Center Landscape Steward, Park Facilities. Do you marvel at the landscaping inside and around Marin County’s historic Civic Center? Become a Civic Center Landscape Steward and help keep garden areas looking beautiful. Orientation regarding the importance of landscaping and of hand weeding as it relates to Integrated Pest Management will be provided by the Chief of Landscape. Self-paced work in a relaxed environment with flexible hours.

Gatehouse Attendant, Parks and Landscape Services. Enjoy volunteering as part of the Marin County Parks team as you greet visitors to McNear's Beach Park, Stafford Lake Park, or Paradise Beach Park. The volunteer will collect fees, answer the phone, direct park patrons, and interact with the public and staff. The ideal volunteer is personable and dependable. Minimum of 2 hours per day, up to a full day. Hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Applicants will be interviewed Parks staff and undergo a background check with the Marin County Sheriff's Department. Volunteers may serve at one of the three parks exclusively, or all three. Parks knowledge very helpful. Volunteers will be bonded by the county. Orientation provided by staff.

Irrigation Specialist, Park Facilities. Do you enjoy working with irrigation systems to help plants thrive? This could be the assignment for you. The volunteer will check drip and sprinkler-head irrigation to address coverage issues. In addition, the volunteer will adjust heads and drip line valves as needed to address problem areas on turf in landscaped areas. The ideal candidate has background in irrigation system operation and landscaping. Orientation and training of park irrigation systems and controllers will be provided. At times, the volunteer will work alongside staff.

 

McInnis Skate Park Steward, Park Facilities. Do you enjoy watching skateboarders’ jumps and maneuvers? Have some time in the mornings or evenings? Responsible volunteers needed to tend to the skate park and tennis courts at McInnis Park, checking for safety hazards and making sure facilities are clean and working properly. The ideal volunteer is friendly with park visitors and may need to remind skate park users to wear helmets. As time allows, other duties may include sweeping paths, weeding landscaped areas, or picking up litter. Volunteer will be responsible for reporting any issues to the Ranger. Hours: 7-9 a.m. and 6-8 p.m. Training and orientation will be provided, including basic MERA radio training.

PROBATION DEPARTMENT

Administrative Assistant, Adult Offender Work Program (AOWP), Probation. Come help the program that assists people back into the workforce. If you enjoy data entry and varied office work, this is the assignment for you! The volunteer will answer phones, sort mail, fax, and file. The ideal candidate has some computer experience, some office experience, and organizational skills. On-site training is available.

Office Assistant, Adult Supervision Unit, Probation. Are you looking for an opportunity for a self-paced, behind-the-scenes experience? The Probation Department is looking for an organized self-starter with an appreciation for detail to review documents for purging. Staff will provide training to give you the comfort level and knowledge to look through files and decide which should be destroyed. The assignment requires the ability to move several files at a time to a desk for review and then back to the file room. The volunteer will reorganize the file room as this task is completed. Before placement, a basic background check is required.

Tutor, Bilingual, Juvenile Hall. Reach out to our young people! The school at Marin County Juvenile Hall needs bilingual tutors to help Spanish-speaking students learn to read and write English. Volunteer in a self-paced, team-oriented educational environment. Hours: 1 to 4 hours per day, 2 to 5 days per week. Training as liaison between staff and Spanish-speaking patients will be provided. Volunteer should be comfortable in a busy environment. Before placement, a mandatory background check will be provided. Orientation and security training provided by staff.

Tutor, Juvenile Hall. Make a difference in an incarcerated student’s day. Work with youth who will benefit from someone helping them stay on task. Assist with individual lessons in an academic subject you are confident teaching. Busy, team-oriented environment. Before placement, a mandatory background check will be provided. Orientation and training in security and rules and policies of Juvenile Hall provided by staff. Hours: 1 to 4 hours a day, 2 to 5 days  a week. Particular need for volunteers in the early afternoon hours.
